All Things That Keep Me Up At Night

One Thursday after swimming at the Hallenbad City in Zurich, I stroll into the changing room after my shower where I overhear two girls talking.

‘So I was at this party and I knew no one right…’

‘Aha, ok’

‘And it was like a little bit boring annnnd…’

‘Unhun’

‘My friends they had invited me, but then they wanted to go…’

‘Ohhhh’

‘So i was just standing there and half of these people they started battling…’

‘Right, right’

‘But I just didn’t want to, so I just stood in the corner…'

‘Of course’

‘That’s when the shrimp was warm and cold at the same time…’

‘Ohhhhh’

‘But I wanted to get away see…’

‘But your friends?’

‘Well ya, they were still battling and they were kind of into the shrimps…’

‘Right, right’

‘So that’s when I see him across the room…’

‘Ya’

‘And it was clear that he wasn’t having a good time either…’

‘Hmmmm’

‘So I just kinda of look over…and keep looking see…’

‘Ya of course’

‘And then he looks at me, so then he walks over…’

‘Wow…’

‘And now we’re married!’

‘Wow, that’s so great’

‘That’s also why I became a software engineer…’

At this point their voices trail off as they leave and the door closes behind them. Leaving me disgruntled, with my tights half way up my legs.

Sighing, I continue getting dressed, all the while musing over what I just heard. I try piecing together the story with the information at hand.

But what do battling, shrimps, marriage and software engineers even have in common?

The answer is: none that I can fathom.

As soon as I resign myself to this conclusion I sense my neurons bundling, labelling and dispatching this story to the department in my brain called:
