The loop undone

Stuck in repetition,

I made a list.

There to help me,

When things got wobbly.

Not to stray.

On it,

Are things like:

Outdoorsy with a sense of humour,

A backbone and capable of evolving,

Kindness and generosity,

Sprinkled with playfulness.

Stuck in repetition,

Knowing what is on my list,

Does not help.

I’ve ticked the boxes.

But come to no conclusion.

It is a conundrum.

Which is why I left on vacation.

Plane that flew over land and water,

To a dreary town,

And a new year’s party.

Stuck in repetition:

I see the potential

And dive

Into the moment shared,

The gestures I know so well.

Leaning on you,

I am surprised

When I inadvertently;

Tumble through the facade

Into someone else’s story.

The loop undone,

It plays out differently,

I start to remember,

A hand in hand,

Slumber with another body.

The loop undone,

I smile to myself,

I think I shall keep

Only

The essence of you.
